EUROPARC Seminar “The Price of Nature”: there is still a chance to be part of the discussion
Dear colleagues,
There are still a few places available for the first annual seminar in the EUROPARC Siggen series, kindly supported by the Alfred Topefer Foundation. It is entitled “The Price of Nature” and will be held at the Foundation’s Gut Siggen (DE) from Wednesday 21st until Friday 23rd July 2010. The event is free to EUROPARC members, including the seminar and workshops, all accommodation and meals (travel there and back is not included).
At the seminar we will consider what practical support is needed in describing the value of our protected areas, whilst too ascribing an economic value to the ecosystem services they provide for society. It will bring together those working on the economic aspects of ecosystem system services management with those pursuing the wilderness agenda. The aim is to work together to look at how individual protected areas and the EUROPARC Federation can take this topic forward in the future.
The two days will combine presentations, with participatory workshops to enable the exchange of experience and new ideas. There will be talks by Toby Ackroyd, Wild Europe Initiative, Sonja Gantioler, IEEP and Peter Glaves, Northumbria University (UK) and plenty of room to discuss issues and exchange experience.
If you are wondering what the TEEB report can do for you, if you want tools to find out the value of your protected area, or if you are concerned that we are losing sight of the intrinsic value of the natural world and want to preserve and mange wilderness in Europe, then join the discussion and be part of the process of developing that vision.
The price for non-members is 150€ and they will be allocated a place only if places are not fully taken up by members.
If you are interested in taking part please let us know by Monday 5th July. A draft programme and travel details are attached.
Kind regards,
Morwenna Parkyn
